I think Prunella Clough is a perfect paradigm for how the drawing space is created by the sophisticated and creatively complicated interrelation of the elements of the drawing.
The actual drawing is the mixture of different elements and the artist’s response on them. The way the artist sees the objects, the media she uses and the way they are displayed on the drawing area compose the drawing . The drawing is not only marks on a paper, not even mere collages. The postcards for example become one with the drawing, they take the role of a canvas to work on , as a base to add other drawing elements, but they are not just placed. They are incorporated among all the other elements to create the aggregation which is the final artwork. Also the drawings evade the flat quality of the paper even though they are not three dimensional in a way that a sculpture would be.

As a starting point , Assignment 1 was a really good introduction for Investigating Drawing.
The projects refer to basic elements or methods for exploring composition that become key acquisitions to be used in further drawing experimentation.
Having finished this assignment I think that I am at a position to see the vast field of drawing in today’s art.
The first project (Observational drawing) gave me the opportunity to experiment with using an observed subject as a source that can be viewed in various different ways. An observed object, or group of objects can become the inspiration for multiple abstract works.
The same idea apply to the second project (using space). The space of the paper and any observed objects or images or other sources compose the drawing and become a new environment.
Project’s three (changing the scale) appraisal is that any object or part of an object or image can be used in creative ways. Having this in mind you can find sources any where to experiment with textures and shape relations.
Studying the human form in project 4 is also an essential skill. This skill is very important for me to acquire as I intend to deal with human figure in my art.
The thinking behind my final series of drawings for assignment 1 was to work in a similar way that I did for project 1. For project 1 I used photographs of an observed subject and made collages of different compositions while completing those collages with different drawing media.

project 1: exploring composition
I found this experimentation very interesting and I really enjoyed working this way. Also the resulting images were very interesting and they have an originality which I aim at and pursue in my art expression.
Additionally I want to imply expressive elements in my art and this is the reason I chose photographs of myself. Using myself as the subject or as part of the artwork implies expressive response in a more direct way.

However, my primary purpose was to create drawings that are good compositions and I aimed at doing this by experimenting and inserting the different elements this first part of the course was dedicated to.
I believe that my exploration was effective in terms of the result and more importantly in terms of what I have learned through it.
I am definitely going to explore this subject further. I feel that I am at a psychological and artistic state that I want to explore self portrait and this investigation of drawing might be a good opportunity as I see at the moment.
